Thiruvarur R. Krishnamoorthy was born to the great “Thavil vidwan” Thiruvarur Shri. Rajagopala Pillai on 02-06-1939 at Thiruvarur (Tamil Nadu, South India).His grand father Shri.Thirukanna Mangai Ramadass Pillai was a great ‘Nadaswara Vidwan’.He Learned Mridhangam from the Renowned Vidhwan Guru Shri. Thiruvarur.Kunju Iyer. Later on he continued training from Guru, Shri.Thiruvarur NagaRaja Iyer, a vetran in Mridhangam and in Kanjira, For a total span of nine hard years of Practice at the Gurukulavasam Mastered the art of Mridhangam.In 1956, He received President award From Dr. Rajendra Prasad, the first President of India for All India Music Competition.In 1959 the title “ MUZHAVU KALAI LAYA MANI” was given by Anbu Nilayam, Thiruvarur.From 1992 he was appointed as the ‘AsthanaVidhwan’ at Sri Kanchi Kamakoti Pettam Kanchipuram.In 1996 the title ‘NADAKKANAL’ was given by Nadakkanal (regd) Mylapore, Chennai.In 1999, Pudhuvai Sangeetha Laya Shruthi Organisation Pondicherry honoured him with the title “Isai Gnana Chudar” Award.Yoganjali Natyalayam honoured with the Title “NADA YOGA SIRONMANI” in 19^th July 2003 given by Pondicherry Governor Mr. K.R. Malkani in Dr. Anandha Balayogi Bhavanani’s Mirudanga Arangetram.Pudhuvai Isai Natya Kalainjargal Sangam honoured with the title “KALAI SELVAM” in 6^th May 2006 given by Sangeetha Vidwan Sri T.V.Sankarnarayanan.In 1952, made debut concert at Thiruvar Thiyagaraja Sannidhi,Further accompanied well known Vidwans Like Chembai Vaidhyanadha Baghavathar, M.L. Vasantha Kumari, S.Balachandar, Madurai Somu, Flute.N. Ramani, Nedanuri. Krishnamoorthy, Nookala Chinna Satyanarayana, Aalathur Sri Srinivasa Iyer, G.S. Mani, BalamuraliKrishan,T.V.Shankaranarayanan and many others.From 1975 to 1998 he served as Mridhangam Artist at All India Radio (AIR) Pondicherry.With ‘A’ Grade from 1986. Also he acompained there many like Shri Nandalal Gosh, the top ranking Sarod Player.Also he toured to many foreign countries to perform many concerts outside AIR and Doordarshan, & he also trained lot of students. Some of the students are Thiruvarur Bhatavatsalam, Neyveli Skantha Subramanian, Thriuvannamalai SivaKumar, Dr. Anandha Balayogi Bhavanani and many others. After service in AIR Pondicherry, He was Teaching Mridhangam for people in and Out of India. He doing his service in the music field for nearly 45 years.
